Dear Friends

John’s Gospel Ch 20 v19-31

By seeing and touching the wounds of his risen Lord, Thomas the doubter is cured of his unbelief.

Some people are born into a religious faith, and with the passage of the years find this faith increasingly strong and sustaining. To possess a faith like that is a tremendous blessing. But for others faith is a constant struggle. Indeed, some people may have to undergo a crisis in order to arrive at a deep and personal faith. Only faith can answer the most important and profound questions of life. But we mustn’t expect faith to clear everything up. Just because we believe doesn’t mean we know all the answers. But we don’t need to know all the answers. Faith is trust not certainty.

That story of Doubting Thomas brings home just how frail we humans are in which the gift of faith is carried and it also shows us that the Christian faith is really about a person who loves us – and has the wounds to prove it. At the heart of biblical faith is not only the faith we have in God, but the faith God has in us.

We all need to look at the Lord’s wounds, and hear his gentle voice saying to us; ‘Cease doubting and believe’. Then with Thomas we can say ‘My Lord and my God’.

I have just returned home from the Table Top Sale at Wesley and wish to thank those who organised it and those who came and supported it.

Just a reminder that we have three important meetings in May; Tuesday 7th at 7pm - Property, Wednesday 8th at 3pm - Finance, Tuesday 14th at 7pm - Church Council.

With good wishes and prayers
